The Pangasinan Provincial Health Office (PHO) has recorded 13 leptospirosis cases in the province from January 1 to June 10 this year, around 70 percent lower compared to the 44 cases recorded in the same period last year.
Provincial health officer Dr. Anna Theresa De Guzman, in a phone interview Monday, said the number of casualty due to leptospirosis also decreased this year with three mortality as compared to last year’s 10 deaths.
“The casualties are from Malasiqui, San Fabian and Bautista,” she said.
Seven towns and one city in the province are under the close monitoring of PHO due to reported cases.
“These are Binmaley with three recorded leptospirosis cases; Urdaneta City; Manaoag; Sta. Barbara; Bautista; Rosales; Mangatarem and Malasiqui, which all have one recorded leptospirosis case,” de Guzman said.
Meanwhile, dengue cases in the province have also declined by 20 percent, with 1,191 cases from January 1 to June 10 this year as compared to 1,492 cases during the same period last year.
De Guzman disclosed that PHO has noted 1 death due to dengue this year, while there were six deaths during the same period last year.
Under PHO’s watchlist are Bayambang town with 126 cases; Pozorrubio (72); Urdaneta City (71); Lingayen (59); Malasiqui (59); Bani (55); San Carlos City (53); Calasiao (42); Alaminos City (35); Binalonan (35); Binmaley (35); Mangaldan (33); and Villasis (32).
