The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has so far transported more than 2,000 tons of relief goods to areas in need following the devastation of Typhoon Odette last December.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the PCG said the total is the combined effort of vessels and air assets by the PCG and the PCG Auxiliary (PCGA).

Specifically, it said, PCG ships and air assets have transported a total of 1,419.8 tons of relief goods while the PCGA has transported an additional 593.5 tons of supplies.

“The PCG, through the Task Force Kalinga, continues to utilize its available assets and resources to help in the recovery of typhoon-stricken regions including MiMaRoPa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga,” the PCG said.

Meanwhile, the PCG District Northeastern Mindanao has started the rehabilitation of its damaged buildings in San Jose, Dinagat Islands on Thursday, about a month after the onslaught of Odette.

In addition, it said the houses of PCG personnel that were damaged or lost due to the typhoon will be part of the reconstruction efforts.

“The PCG District Northeastern Mindanao is working with BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) for the safe and swift transport of construction materials for the said initiative,” the PCG said.

PCG District Chief Captain Dennis Pandeagua assured that relief transport missions will continue amidst their reconstruction efforts. (PNA)
