The city government of Marikina and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday opened two public utility vehicle (PUV) stops in the city.

In a statement, Marikina Mayor Maan Teodoro said the PUV stops were designed to provide a safe, convenient and accessible travel experience for residents.

“We have closely coordinated with the DOTr to make this project possible,” she said.

Teodoro said the DOTr project set up a total of six PUV stops in Metro Manila, with two located in Marikina City.

“One beside Concepcion Elementary School and another near San Roque Elementary School,” Teodoro said. “Marikina is very lucky because two of the six transport stations are located in Marikina. This is very sustainable and in line with our program.”

She noted that the newly built PUV stops were designed to be inclusive, safe, and sustainable, featuring seating for vulnerable sectors, security cameras, charging ports, bike repair tools, lighting systems and solar panels.

“Each PUV stop was thoughtfully designed with every commuter in mind. It provides benches for the general public, along with designated seating for persons with disabilities (PWD), pregnant senior citizens, ensuring that comfort and accessibility remain at the heart of the project,” she stressed.

There are also concrete bollards and tactile pavers for the visually impaired; advertisement panels and maps; and PWD-friendly ramps.

“Magagawa lang po namin [ang proyektong] ito sa malapit na pakikipagugnayan sa local government unit sa pangunguna ni Mayor Maan. Talaga pong nag-request siya ng ganito para sa kanyang mga (We can only do this [project] in close contact with the local government unit under the leadership of Mayor Maan.
