The city government of Pasig has partnered with Globe Telecommunications Inc., to provide high-speed, reliable, and an affordable internet connection to residents as the telco launched GoWiFi and KonekTayo WiFi services on Monday.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said Globe’s GoWiFi and KonekTayo WiFi services will be now available in various places within the city.

“GoWiFi and KonekTayo WiFi now available at City Hall, Plaza Rizal, Plaza Bonifacio, our public hospitals, and more to come,” Sotto said.

The ‘KonekTayo WiFi’ is a community Wi-Fi service that offers fast and secure internet access where customers only need to connect to a KonekTayoWiFi hotspot and purchase a surfing promo load to activate internet access.

This service is available to all mobile networks and does not require device cashouts, monthly fees, and the use of modems.

Under the project, Globe will deploy KonekTayo WiFi buses equipped with special antennas that broadcast Wi-Fi signals.

These Wi-Fi services would also be helpful for the students who are attending online classes amid the pandemic, Sotto said.

Residents can avail of the KonekTayo WiFi service for as low as PHP15 per day, which will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ilaya Covered Court, Santolan Big Amphitheater, and Kapitolyo San Joaquin Elementary School.

GoWiFi, meanwhile, is a premium public Wi-Fi service available in 2,800 locations nationwide including malls, supermarkets, hospitals, and airports.

In Pasig City, GoWiFi service is already available at the city hall, Pasig City General Hospital, Pasig City Children’s Hospital, Rizal Medical Center, Rizal High School, and Philsports Arena/Ultra.

The city government will soon provide GoWiFi and KonekTayo WiFi services in more areas by 2021, including the Pasig mega-market and other public places.

“We’ve been really trying to streamline the processes to help businesses, not just telcos, but all businesses. We’ve been trying our best, without corruption, to clean up our government and streamline everything from the application of new business permits until occupancy permits,” Sotto said.

Sotto vowed a strong partnership with the private sector to address the poor internet connectivity in the city.

“I’m confident that we will continue to make things better, to make things more inclusive even when it comes to better signal or digital inclusivity for our constituents,” said Sotto. (PNA)
