Showing off the outstanding skills of Filipinos, over three Pinoy athletes were able to receive high recognition during the 22nd Asia Masters Athletics Championships.

Held in the New Clark City stadium from November 8 to 12, the 22nd Asia Masters Athletics Championships has gathered different athletes from different parts of the world.

Leading the competition, Filipino athletes have created their own names as they have gathered both silver and gold medals.

Successfully reaching for the gold, two female athletes were able to show exceptional skills in their designated divisions, as Judith Staples got the gold for women’s pole vault under the 50-55 age group, while Nhea Ann Barcena bagged not just one but five gold medals for 40-44-year-olds in the 800 and 1500 meters run categories and the 2000 meters run.

“Marami pong salamat sa Lokal na Pamahalaan ng Panukulan sa pagmamalaki at pagkilala sa akin bilang atleta, patunay laang po na lahat ay posible. Nakamit po natin ang limang medalyang ginto sa katatapos na 22nd AMAC Philippines,” Barcena said.

Staples also expressed gratitude to her mentors for guiding her throughout her journey to aim for the gold medal during the competition. “From the provision of my poles, training in San Jose, to sending me to the Pole Vault Summit, I am truly grateful! Sharing my victory with you! See you guys soon,” she said.

Besides Barcena and Staples, coach Emerson Obiena and Edward Obiena, the relative of the world’s second-best pole vaulter, EJ Obiena, won the gold medal for the men’s 55-59 category and got silver recognition for the 2.70-meter division.

With these achievements from the Filipino athletes, they sure dominated the competition, gaining not just recognition for themselves but also for the country, noting that most of them had the highest winnings that were given.
