Filipino and Chinese employees of the New Centennial Water Source Kaliwa Dam Project, being constructed by China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CEEC), have participated in a cleanup drive along the Dalig River in Teresa town, Rizal province on June 11 as the rainy season began.

In a news release Wednesday, the CEEC said Kaliwa Dam Project employees helped in removing garbage, accumulated silt, weeds and floating debris from the river and drainage nets to prevent flooding.

“Dredging work may not be the most laborious, but it is certainly the dirtiest. In the beginning, it didn’t seem like much, but it turned out to be quite a lot to clean up. However, the thought of cleaning the river and providing a safer and healthier living environment for residents, gives us the momentum to power through,” project staff Chen Danyue said.

The Kaliwa Dam Project volunteers were able to clean a length of 300 meters and removed over 300 kilograms of various types of garbage from the Dalig river.

The CEEC said it will continue to adhere to the concept of sustainable development, maintaining the local ecological environment and working together to build a beautiful home.

According to the Metropolitan Water Sewerage System, the PHP12.2-billion Kaliwa Dam Project has reached a construction progress of 30 percent and will be completed by 2027.

The 63-meter dam is expected to supply an initial capacity of 600 million liters of water per day for over 15 million residents in Metro Manila and other nearby areas. (PNA)
