The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in the Bicol region, in partnership with Ago Medical and Education Center (AMEC), is now accepting enrollees for the newest technical-vocational course program in health care services.

In a press conference here on Friday, Lut Damaso, AMEC program head, said the course is based on the TESDA circular wherein a higher education institution under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) should offer the programs related to the course.

“At AMEC, we offer medicine, dentistry, nursing, and midwifery; we have the complete package of these courses,” she said.

She added they are given 300 slots to open the program for all Bicolanos with very minimum requirements.

“For those who will finish the said program, will have an equivalent of seven national certificates (NC) accredited by TESDA in Barangay Health Care Services NCII, Caregiving (elderly) NCII, Health Care Services NCII, Lifeguard Services NCII, Emergency Medical Services NCII, Emergency Medical Services NCIII, and Bookkeeping NCII. This will be a great opportunity for them to find jobs, particularly if they are aiming to work here and abroad,” Damaso said.

She said since the program is funded by TESDA, enrolled students will be scholars with a book allowance of PHP5,000, and a uniform allowance and training support fund of PHP9,000 per semester.

“The government allocated at least PHP42,000 per semester for every student,” she said.

Interested trainees must be able to communicate in basic English both orally and written, at least a graduate of the basic education or senior high school, or alternate learning system, perform basic mathematical computation, and have good moral character issued by the school last attended.

They must also submit an authenticated birth certificate, Senior High School Form 137, or a certificate of grades for college drop outs, and a photocopied diploma.

In her message, Dr. Angelita Ago, AMEC president, said the TESDA health care course is a great opportunity provided to Bicolanos.

She said they are government partners in giving the region’s residents a chance to have better lives by providing TESDA courses and scholarships. (PNA)
