The 18 local government units (LGUs) of Albay province are expected to receive a share of the PHP50-million cash assistance given by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to those affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami) during his visit to Camarines Sur over the weekend.

In a press conference on Tuesday, acting Albay Governor Glenda Ong Bongao said each LGU would receive allocation ranging from PHP1 million to PHP3 million based on assessments conducted by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office.

“Every LGU needs it so we decided to distribute it to all 15 towns and three cities in the province. Those who were severely affected will get PHP3 million, while those who are less affected will receive PHP1 million. Everyone will receive it; hopefully tomorrow, the LGUs will get him,” she said.

Bongao said aside from the LGUs, they also allocated PHP3 million for the school divisions in the province.

“We also talked to school division heads; they also need help since it is back to school. With the amount, we can extend help to the needs of the school repair. The remaining amount will be used by the province for relief goods and medicines,” she said.

Bongao added they will also give cash assistance to the families of the casualties during the onslaught of Kristine last week.

“It may be related or not, but the death was during the time of Kristine, we will provide,” she said.

Bongao thanked the President for the support and presence to personally check on the situation of Bicol provinces.

“PHP50 million is a great help; all local chief executives appreciated his assistance. I feel that he really cares for the people of the Bicol region,” she added.

As of Tuesday, 1,847 families are still in evacuation centers in Albay. (PNA)
