A police-led bloodletting activity here on Monday yielded 39 bags of blood that would be helpful for patients battling dengue, undergoing dialysis, or receiving cancer treatments.

“A total of 17,550 cc of assorted blood or equivalent to 39 bags of blood were gathered from 39 volunteer donors composed of uniformed personnel and civilians,” Maj. Sheryll Guzman, chief of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Community Affairs and Development Unit, said in a statement.

The activity, dubbed “Dugong Bayani (Hero’s Blood),” was spearheaded by the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO) in partnership with the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center-National Blood Service Program.

Running for 13 years now, the “Dugong Bayani” program aims to boost the supply of blood bags for patients in urgent need in the province.

“A heartfelt appreciation to all the donors, volunteers, and partners who made the bloodletting activity a resounding success,” the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center said in a statement.

The hospital reminded the public that donating blood “is not only beneficial to those in need but also to the donors themselves, as it promotes healthy blood regeneration.” (PNA)
