The planned direct flight between the Philippines and Israel is expected to boost tourist arrivals and make travel more accessible to pilgrims and tourists from both countries, Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Dana Kursh said.
In an interview, the ambassador said Israeli airline Arkia is set to launch a once-a-week service between Tel Aviv and Manila, providing a direct travel link between the two countries.
Kursh said the service would allow more Filipino pilgrims to visit Israel and experience religious sites associated with the life of Jesus.
“Once a week, there is going to be a direct flight, and then many more pilgrims can come and walk in the footsteps of Jesus,” Kursh said.
She said the route could also encourage more Israelis to visit the Philippines, creating opportunities for reciprocal tourism and stronger people-to-people exchanges.
“There are so many Filipinos who want to come and visit Israel. And there are so many Israelis who want to come and visit here,” she said.
Kursh encouraged Israelis to explore the Philippines, citing its churches, natural attractions, and island destinations.
She said Philippine tourism and transportation officials have worked to facilitate direct air connectivity between the two countries and expressed hope that Arkia’s service would be followed by additional direct flights.
The ambassador, who was born and raised near Nazareth and later lived in Jerusalem, said her experience in the Philippines gave her a deeper appreciation of the places where she grew up and of the strong connection between Filipinos and Israel.
She also cited the countries’ shared interests in innovation and finding solutions to challenges such as climate change.
Kursh said the direct flights could serve as a bridge between the two countries, bringing their peoples closer and helping build a better future for their children in Israel and the Philippines. (PNA)
