The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) announced Monday that it is ready to share its online application, the Local Incident Gathering Tool for Alerting Safety (LIGTAS), with other local government units to boost public cooperation in disaster prevention.

CDRRMO head engineer Charles Carame said the app allows citizens to take photos and report potential hazards such as leaning trees or posts, signs of soil movement, open manholes, or unattended garbage.

“This app aims to make the people involved. The more they report, the more we respond and attend to their information which can prevent the higher possibility of encountering more problems,” Carame said during an interview.

Developed by the city government, the LIGTAS app complements emergency response efforts by emphasizing disaster prevention and risk reduction.

“Take for example a tree leaning on an electric wire. If it is reported right away, it will allow authorities to address it sooner. That’s far better than leaving it unattended, which could result in broken posts, damaged wires, or even injuries to passersby once strong rains and winds hit,” Carame said in Filipino.

Carame said the tool requires active public participation to minimize risks.

Citizens can use the app by scanning Quick Response (QR) codes posted around the city and submitting details with photos of hazards. (PNA)
