The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional office here on Friday distributed 26,250 milkfish and 62, 640 tilapia fingerlings in Hermosa, Bataan as part of the government’s response to the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

BFAR regional director Wilfredo Cruz, who led the distribution, said the move aims to provide immediate support to small-scale fishers and fish producers after the losses they suffered due to the health crisis.

Hermosa Mayor Antonio Joseph “Jopet” Rivera Inton thanked BFAR and the Department of Agriculture (DA) for their continuing support to the fisherfolk.

“Ito ay naglalayong masiguro na may sapat na makakain ang ating mga mamamayan lalo na ngayong panahon ng krisis at upang mapalakas ang sektor ng agrikultura at pangingisda sa ating bansa. Lubos pong nagpapasalamat ang ating pamahalaang lokal sa walang sawang pagsuporta sa mga programang ito (This aims to ensure that our constituents have enough foods especially in this time of pandemic and to boost the agriculture and fishery sector in our country),” Inton said in his official social media account post.

In September last year, BFAR distributed some eight million bangus (milkfish) fry in three towns of Bataan, including Hermosa.

The move was in line with BFAR’s “Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat Kontra sa Covid-19” (ALPAS) program.

Cruz earlier said that Central Luzon will have more than 100 million bangus fry allocation to be distributed in some provinces in the Central Luzon region where the food production system proved to be the most vulnerable to the effects of the pandemic. (PNA)
