Metro Manila residents can now get a taste of the rich varieties of the Philippines’ coffee, chocolate and teas, as the Agribusiness Development Center (ADC) opened the Department of Agriculture (DA) Kapehan on Tuesday.

In a speech, Amarich Marketing International General Manager Amabel Caparas Frias said the DA targets to help local farmers increase their production by stabilizing demand and showcasing it through the DA Kapehan.

“Kayo po ay aming inaanyayahan na tikman ang mga masasarap na kape na na-produce po ng ating (We are inviting you to taste the delicious coffee produced by our) farmers all over the Philippines. Let’s support our farmers in planting more coffees, cacao, and tea for the future needs of our client,” she said.

Coffee varieties will come from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, showcasing the dynamic taste and aroma of coffee from Batangas, Baguio and Rizal, among others.

Coffee drinks may be served either hot, cold, or as frappé, and sold for PHP45 to PHP110.

The DA said caffeine lovers can also look forward to a featured coffee every month.

“Pumunta po rito (Come here) regularly. Support our local farmers by getting your coffees here. Mas preferred po natin yung brewed and local coffees instead po dun sa ating conventional na alam naman natin na mas prone tayo dahil mas mataas ang sugar content ng instant coffees (We prefer brewed and local coffees more instead of the conventional ones, where we are more prone to a higher level of sugar content in instant coffees),” Joyce Bengo, focal person of the Market Development Division, said.

The DA Kapehan is open to the public every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at the ADC Showroom building in Diliman, Quezon City. (PNA)
