The construction and development of the PHP100-million Gaas Inlet Eco-Tourism in Dinagat Islands will soon proceed following Wednesday’s memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and the Dinagat Islands provincial government.

Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. and TIEZA chief operating officer Mark Lapid signed the agreement in Manila.

“The PHP100-million Gaas Inlet Eco-Tourism development will not only showcase our natural beauty but also strengthen our province’s standing as a rising eco-tourism destination in the region,” Demerey told the Philippine News Agency in a Thursday interview.

The eco-tourism project, which will involve the construction of a boardwalk and other related structures leading to watersports areas in Gaas Inlet, will be carried out in Barangay Llamera of Libjo town.

“The project shall be carried out by TIEZA, through a public bidding, for its construction. After the completion thereof, the PROJECT shall be turned over by TIEZA to the province of Dinagat Islands, which shall maintain, manage and administer the same,” the MOA stated.

Following the MOA signing, TIEZA shall conduct a public bidding in accordance with Republic Act No. 12009, also known as the New Government Procurement Act.

Demerey said the project will also generate jobs during construction and create sustainable livelihood opportunities upon completion.

“It will attract eco-conscious travelers, boost local businesses, and provide long-term benefits to our communities by linking environmental protection to economic growth,” Demerey said, thanking TIEZA for its partnership and commitment. (PNA)
