Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Officer-in-Charge Eduardo Punay led Wednesday the distribution of PHP5.3-million cash aid to 824 flood-hit families here.

Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD-9 information officer, said Punay flew in from Manila to see for himself the condition of the flood-hit families here and in the nearby town of Sibuco in Zamboanga del Norte province.

Salvador said 494 of the 824 flood-hit families who received cash aid are from this city while the remaining 330 are from Sibuco.

Of the 494 beneficiaries here, 412 families each received PHP5,000 cash while 82 families got PHP10,000 each.

Salvador said 170 of the 330 families in Sibuco received PHP10,000 each while the remaining received PHP5,000 each.

“The families whose houses were totally destroyed during the flood received PHP10,000 each while those with partially damaged house got PHP5,000 each,” Salvador said.

He said the funds came from the DSWD’s Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation.

Meanwhile, Punay and Sibuco officials forged an agreement for the repositioning of relief goods in the town.

Under the agreement, the municipal government will provide a warehouse where the DSWD can store its relief goods to be used in times of calamity. (PNA)
