Jo Koy Celebrates Filipino-American Heritage In ‘Easter Sunday’ Trailer Release

American stand-up comedian Jo Koy is back to debut as lead actor in upcoming film ‘Easter Sunday’ — a sweet, comedy piece dedicated to the Filipino-American communities in the United States.

Through YouTube, Universal Pictures uploaded an almost 3-minute trailer for the film.

The film follows Joseph, a fictionalized version of Jo Koy, who returns home to celebrate Easter, a holiday commemorated by Filipinos all over the world as part of the Filipino heritage.

As the story progresses, he deals with “his riotous, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing, loving family, in this love letter to his Filipino-American community.”

The actor comedian recently announced the upcoming film via Facebook and Instagram, in which he executively produced and is set to star as lead.

“My movie Easter Sunday comes out August 5th only IN THEATERS EVERYWHERE. Who’s ready? Thank you @amblin @universalpictures @ridebackranch @dreamworks and most importantly Thank you Steven Spielberg for making my dream a reality. Mahal kita!” the comedian captioned.

Steven Spielberg, through Amblin Entertainment, will be distributing the film internationally together with Universal Pictures.

The upcoming film also stars well-known actors Jimmy O. Yang, Tia Carrere, Brandon Wardell, Eva Noblezada, Lydia Gaston, Asif Ali, Rodney To, Eugene Cordero, Jay Chandrasekhar, Tiffany Haddish, and Lou Diamond Phillips.

‘Easter Sunday’ is set to be in theaters on August 5, 2022.
