Carlos Edriel Yulo’s Paris Olympic feats will hopefully serve as inspiration to the youth that determination and hard work produce golden results.

During a recognition ceremony for the gymnast at the city hall on Monday, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna particularly wished that more Manileños will follow the path of the diminutive 24-year-old from Malate District.

“Ito ang aming munting pagkilala sa napakahalagang kontribusyon ninyo sa larangan ng sports at sana ay marami pang kabataang Manilenyo at Pilipino ang inyong mabigyan ng inspirasyon na magtagumpay sa kanilang piling larangan (This is our simple recognition of your important contribution to the field of sports. We also hope that many young Manileños and Filipinos would be inspired to excel in theier chosen fields),” the mayor said in her brief message.

Lacuna also thanked those who helped Yulo in his campaign at the world’s biggest sporting event.

“Dalangin namin ang marami pang medalyang ginto sa inyong mga torneo na sasalihan lalo na sa (We pray for more gold medals in your next competitions, especially the) 2028 Los Angeles Olympics,” Lacuna added.

Yulo was presented with a resolution inked by the Manila City Council, which designates every Aug. 4 as Carlos Yulo Day, a working holiday to remember the day he won his second gold medal.

Lacuna also handed Yulo a PHP2 million cash incentive from the city government.

Last week, Lacuna also gave Olympian pole vaulter EJ Obiena a cash incentive of PHP500,000. He finished 4th overall in his event.

Obiena hails from Tondo where he finished his secondary education at Chiang Kai Shek College. He attended college at the University of Santo Tomas in Sampaloc. (PNA)
