A PHP40-million sports complex with state-of-the-art amenities will soon rise in this town.
Senator Emmanuel Joel Villanueva led on Tuesday the ceremonial groundbreaking of the sports complex which was named after his sister, the late mayor Joni Villanueva, whose 43rd birthday is being celebrated on this day.
The senator, in his message, said that the sports center was one of the dream projects of the late mayor for her constituents.
It will be erected on a 1,100-square meter lot along Governor Halili Avenue, Barangay Biñang 2nd here, which was donated by the Villanueva family.
“Makasaysayan ang araw na ito dahil ito ang unang kaarawan ng aking kapatid na si Mayor Joni na wala na siya. Isa lamang ito sa napakaraming pangarap ni Mayor, ang iba ay natupad na tulad ng pagkakaroon ng sariling ospital at molecular laboratory at ang iba ay ibinilin na sa amin (This day is historic because this the first birthday of my sister, Mayor Joni, that she is no longer around. This is one of the many dreams of the mayor. The others have already been fulfilled like having your own hospital and molecular laboratory and others which she requested us to fulfil),” Villanueva said.
He said the PHP40-million fund for the construction of the sports center will come from his office, the Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Party-list, and also from the province’s second district Rep. Gavini “Apol” Pancho.
He said the Mayor Joni Villanueva Sports Center will be constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways under District Engineer Henry Alcantara of the Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office.
Pancho, during the groundbreaking rites, said, “I’m sure Mayor Joni is very happy now because her long-time dream for Bocaue to have its own sports center will soon be fulfilled”.
“Mayor Joni always reminded Senator Joel to support Bocaue and do not leave the Bocaueños alone,” he added.
Mayor Joni’s husband, former Rep. Sherwin Tugna, said that his late wife loved the people of Bocaue very much.
“This sports complex named after her is a symbol of Mayor Joni’s eternal love for the Bocaueños,” the former CIBAC representative said.
After the groundbreaking, the senator also turned over checks worth PHP500,000 to 15 barangays of this town for the procurement of 15 multi-cabs.
Also present during the event were CIBAC Party-list Rep. Domeng Rivera, Vice Mayor Alvin Cotaco, and Sangguniang Bayan members. (PNA)
