The Provincial Veterinary Office of Pangasinan is providing livestock to farmer groups as additional livelihood and for food security.

In a phone interview on Monday, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Arcely Robeniol said nine farmers’ cooperatives and associations requested for the livelihood program that would augment their income.

She said they would distribute goat and carabao breeders with a total worth of PHP526,000 after a two-day training to be conducted late October.

“The first day of training is all about lectures on livestock raising, management and forage production, and the second day is Lakbay Aral (educational tour) at provincial breeding facilities and hands-on demo,” she said.

The three provincial breeding stations are located in San Quintin, Dasol and Mangatarem.

Robeniol said the second day would also be for the verification of the technology they learned from the first day of training.

“So during the hands-on training, they will also be oriented on the management and efficient feeding and the forage pasture development because it’s crucial for the management of nutrition (of the animals),” she said.

Robeniol said the qualified farmers’ organizations or associations are registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Labor and Employment.

“And they also have their regular meeting and activities, and of course connection with the agriculture office of the designated municipality,” she said. (PNA)
