Over 300 fisherfolk in this town have received PHP3,000 cash and food aid worth PHP2,000 each from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
In an interview on Thursday, municipal information officer Dianne Mila said the food assistance comprises chicken, rice, and egg.
“This is timely and helpful to the fisherfolk since they were not able to sail further into the sea to catch more fish due to the gale warning issued by the Philippine Coast Guard due to high waves since December last year,” she said.
She added the livelihood of marginalized fisherfolk in the town has been severely affected since then.
“We are grateful to the Department of Agriculture (DA) and BFAR for extending help to our fisherfolk. This will greatly benefit them during these times,” Mayor Marvin Martinez said during the aid distribution on Wednesday.
The assistance is under the cash and food subsidy program for marginal fishermen of DA-BFAR. (PNA)
