A PHP50 million trade center will soon rise here, providing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region with increased opportunities to showcase their products and generate more jobs.

In a message on Thursday, Department of Trade and Industry Regional Director Dindo Nabol said the first Bicol Trade Center project aligns with the commitment to fostering economic growth and development in the region.

“It will provide a platform for local businesses to thrive, connect, and innovate. The construction of this building is also a significant milestone in our efforts to future-proof DTI facilities,” he added.

Nabol said the project is expected to start construction this year and completed next year.

“This project is a testament to collaborative efforts and commitment to the economic growth and development in Bicol. May the Bicol Trade Center be a beacon of progress and prosperity for our region,” Nabol added.

During the groundbreaking and capsule-laying ceremony, Ako Bicol (AKB) Party-list Executive Director Anelyn Sumanga, delivering the message of AKB Rep. Elizaldy Co, said the facility would serve as a permanent home for Bicolano products, acting as a center for opportunity, innovation, and economic development.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will manage the facility through its Albay office.

“Finally, we will have a home for our products. I am truly pleased and proud of this project. AKB continues to provide programs that enhance the lives of our MSMEs,” he said.

Co said the facility would promote Bicol’s product excellence and quality.

Alex Lacuna, chief of DPWH Region 5 Construction Division, said the three-story, permanent, modern, and resilient building would enhance public service delivery and serve as an accessible and sustainable workspace for DTI personnel and the public.

The project, funded under the 2025 General Appropriations Act, will have a floor area of 1,196.36 square meters.

It will feature an exhibit hall, storage area, power supply room, and comfort rooms, making it ideal for exhibitions, fairs, product development, and capacity-building activities.

The facility will also include the finance and administrative division offices, a pantry, a fully equipped conference room, the business department division, and the consumer protection division. (PNA)
