Three years since the last presidential elections in 2016 and halfway into President Rodrigo Duterte’s term, some politicians have already expressed their interest and ambition to assume the highest executive position in the country. Let’s take a look at ten likely 2022 presidential candidates who have gained support and following for a possible presidential bid in the next general elections.

1. Sara Duterte

The president’s daughter, Sara is a strong contender to the 2022 presidential elections. As the leader of the administration-backed Hugpong ng Pagbabago in the midterm elections, she has already gained support from some of the senatorial bets such as Sen. Sonny Angara.

In February, Sara said she is keeping her doors open to a possible presidential bid in 2022. She also set January 2021 as her deadline to decide if she’s running or not. However, she has urged her supporters to stop calling her the ‘next president’ because it’s making her a target of those eyeing the position.

Meanwhile, Pres. Duterte is strongly against Sara running for the presidency. He also publicly advised her to not seek the highest position in the country as it does not have any benefits, but instead will only destroy her.
