4. Why Quiapo?

From its original designation in the Church of Saint Nicolas de Tolentino or Recoletos Church” in Intramuros, the image was transferred to Quiapo Church, known canonically as the Parish of Saint John the Baptist or the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene. That transfer was later implemented as a tradition known as Traslacion, the procession of the sacred image of the Black Nazarene.
