Pinoys grew up with Filipino sorbetes, or “dirty ice cream,” with local flavors like ube, cheese, chocolate, and vanilla that our taste buds are so familiar with.

However, over the years, ice creams have evolved by introducing uncommon but interesting flavors that are new to almost everybody.

Eventually, Filipinos will ride on this trend and make a name for their businesses. In celebration of National Ice Cream Month, here are five ice cream flavors in the Metro that you probably didn’t know existed!

1. Tinutong na Kanin

Burnt rice or “tutong” as an ice cream flavor? Who would have thought that it was possible?

The Manila Creamery made it the Manila Way when they introduced a new flavor to the ice cream world—their toasty and smooth Tinutong Na Kanin gelato made from legit burnt rice.

The Tinutong Na Kanin is originally a Bicol dessert that The Manila Creamery transformed into a toasty rice gelato flavor. It costs Php 390.00 per pint and can be sold in selected mall branches.

2. Davao meets Bicol

What comes to mind first when you hear the word “Davao?” What about when you hear “Bicol?

Infused with Davao’s dark chocolate and Bicol’s sili, Davao Meets Bicol ice cream by Papa Diddi’s will surely bring a new experience to ice cream enthusiasts.

Yes, you heard it right—dark chocolate and silica; bitter and spicy. It’s a weird and new combination of ice cream flavors, but no one dislikes ice cream, right?

If you want to experience this unique and “spicy-like” ice cream, you can taste it in Quezon City, where they sell it for Php 85.00 per scoop and Php 350.00 per pint.

3. Beer and Chicharon

Beer and chicharon-flavored ice cream? What more could we ask for?

This sweet-and-salty combination by the Carousel Creamery will definitely be the perfect chilly pulutan to accompany friends in their drinking session.

Those who want to try this very Pinoy flavor could get the ice cream for Php 105 per scoop and Php 385 per pint. If you want to try this flavor, you may visit them in San Juan, Metro Manila.

4. Green Mango Sorbet and Bagoong

Are you having that weird craving for ice cream and mango with bagoong all at once? Well, this flavor is perfect for you!

The Green Mango Sorbet and Bagoong by Sebastian’s Ice Cream gets insanely real as it is made with real green mangoes and served with freshly heated bagoong.

Weird as it may sound, this combination of green mango-flavored ice cream and bagoong will give food enthusiasts a new experience with its “cold and hot, sour and salty, fresh and funky” explosion of flavors.

This rare and unique ice cream flavor can be bought for Php 480 per pint at a mall in Ortigas.

5. Mega Malunggay

Do you like your veggies? But on ice cream?

The Fog City Creamery has you covered with its famous Mega Malunggay ice cream flavor. For those who want to splurge on ice cream and keep healthy at the same time, this malunggay-flavored ice cream might be the perfect one to try.

Some people who are conscious of what they eat might want to try this as a dessert, considering that it is made out of a leafy vegetable.

Their Mega Malunggay pint is sold for Php 450.00 at a coffee shop in Makati.

Looking into these unique ice cream flavors, you will see how Filipinos are really fond of sweets and discovering new things through their creativity. So what are you waiting for? Will you have the guts to try these rare ice cream flavors?
