The Commission on Elections (Comelec) identified nine government offices where qualified Filipino overseas workers still in the country may register as overseas voters in connection with the May 2022 National and Local Elections.
In a Notice of Continuing Registration Overseas posted on its website, www.comelec.gov.ph, the poll body has named several government offices where would-be overseas absentee voters may visit and register.
“All qualified Filipino citizens who are not registered overseas voters may file their applications for registration at the nearest embassy/consulate or other registration centers authorized by the Commission on Elections,” it said.
The Comelec added that all applicants must personally appear at either of the following offices:
Comelec– Office for Overseas Voting, Intramuros, Manila
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Intramuros, Manila
Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Ortigas, Mandaluyong City
Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Manila
Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), Manila
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) – Office of Consular Affairs, ASEANA, Parañaque City
DFA – Office of Consular Affairs, SM, Manila
DFA – Office of Consular Affairs, Alabang, Muntinlupa City
DFA – Office of Consular Affairs, Robinsons Galleria, Quezon City.
The Comelec added that for biometrics capturing, one must bring the following requirements:
1) photocopy of a valid passport or 2) if dual citizen, copy of the oath of allegiance or proof of Philippine citizenship from Bureau of Immigration; or 3) for seamen, copy of seaman’s book.
“Notice is hereby given that under Republic Act No. 9189 as amended by Republic Act No. 10590, all citizens of the Philippines abroad, who are not disqualified by law, at least eighteen (18) years of age on May 9, 2022, and who are registered overseas voters, may vote for Senators and Party-List Representatives,” it added.
Filing of applications for registration will start on December 16 and will run until September 30, 2021.
On Wednesday, the Comelec announced that the resumption of voter registration for overseas voters will begin next month.
In Comelec Resolution No. 10619, the poll body said aside from application for registration, application for Certification for transfer of registration records, change of name due to marriage or court order/correction of entries in the Voter’s Registration Record, reactivation, and change of address may be filed during the period.
Applicants may file their applications at any Philippine post abroad or at designated registration centers outside the Post or in the designated registration center in the Philippines as approved by the poll body.
Meanwhile, the resolution said those who are looking to transfer their registration from overseas post to a Philippine municipality/city/district, the period of filing will be from December 16, 2019 to August 31, 2021. (PNA)
