The fire that struck the popular amusement park, Star City, in Pasay has been declared under control early Wednesday.

Pasay City Fire Marshal Paul Pili said the fire has been declared under control at 4:32 a.m.

The fire started around 12:22 a.m. Wednesday in the stockroom of stuff toys and other prizes and later spread to other areas inside the facility.

Fire officers said the blaze quickly spread to other parts of the building and huge plumes billowed into the sky as firefighters immediately responded to control it.

Aside from the amusement park, the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC), a sister company of Star City, was also gutted by fire.

No casualties were reported in the fire that reached Task Force Alpha status at 2:32 a.m.

After two hours, the blaze was raised to Task Force Bravo, meaning 19 fire trucks were deployed to the area.

Investigation showed the roof of the Snow World attraction collapsed while the Star Theater was also destroyed.

In a statement, the MBC management said that they are closely coordinating with authorities to determine the cause of the fire.

“Despite the catastrophe, MBC FM stations Love Radio, Yes the Best, and Easy Rock will continue regular broadcasting operations while DZRH is expected to go back on-air within 48 hours or less,” the company said.

“Star City, which was hit hard by the fire, will be closed through the Christmas season,” it added.

Star City spokesperson Rudolph Jularbal said the amusement park might only reopen in Oct. 2020.

He said they are considering giving financial support to affected employees. (PNA)
