Vice President Leni Robredo visited for the second time the weavers of the indigenous Yakan tribe to lead the groundbreaking rites for the Angat Buhay Weaving Center in Barangay Buahan, Lamitan City, Basilan Province on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019.

A facility for the Yakan weavers will be constructed within the area of their community through the Office of the Vice President’s partnership with C.C. Buencamino Architecture, under its flagship anti-poverty program Angat Buhay.

VP Leni, along with Lamitan City Mayor Rose Furigay and Vice Mayor Oric Furigay, witnessed the signing of the memorandum of agreement between the City Government of Lamitan and C.C. Buencamino Architecture represented by Architect Consuelo “Peach” C. Buencamino, an active partner of VP Leni’s office in its past projects.

Also joining VP Leni during the turnover ceremony were Lamitan, Basilan’s two National Living Treasure Awardees, Yakan weaver Ambalang Ausalin and Yakan musician Uwang Ahadas.
