As the country tries to practice the resiliency among Filipinos, sometimes there are just some things that are beyond our reach and might need a helping hand.

Carlo Samonte as a living example.

Carlo Samonte is a candy vendor who walks from Pasay to Makati everyday because of the restricted modes of transportation in the country. The 87 year old manages to walk around four to six kilometres just so he earns some and survive during the pandemic.

Every morning, Samonte walks past a bike store in Pasay lingering the shop to check if there were stocks of any bicycles.

Once the items have been restocked, the vendor plucked up enough courage to ask for a bargain. The product is originally retailed at P4,800, and he told shop owner Fe Carandang that he only has P2,000 to purchase the mini mountain bike.

Instead of taking up the offer or telling him to scram, Carandang had an even better idea.

In a video taken by the staff, you can witness the heartwarming moment between them. According to the shop owner, the Samonte was hoping to get it for P2,000. After giving the payment and asking for the receipt, Carandang informed him of the good news—they are giving it as a gift to the hardworking seller.

Before the quarantine, Samonte was reportedly a regular tricycle rider.
