At least 125 chairmen and councilors of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) here are undergoing a two-day training every weekend of the month on how to cope and recover from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

The “Youth Resilience and Recoveries on Covid-19 Pandemic Training” is aimed at imparting to the young leaders first-hand information about the health protocols that would prevent the Covid-19 from spreading when properly observed.

Dr. Fulbert Alec Gillego, Legazpi City Health Office chief, prodded the SK officials to help effectively implement the health and safety protocols in their respective barangays by reminding the residents to seriously observe the anti-Covid 19 measures.

“You should help your barangay officials in reminding the people for them to strictly and religiously observe these protocols so that the virus infection in the community level would be prevented,” Gillego said in an interview on Sunday.

Gillego narrated his encounters with Covid-19 patients as he shared with training participants his techniques using the health and safety protocols that spared him from getting infected.

This city is known for its strict implementation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines.

Legazpi City SK Federation president and ex-officio councilor Mae Ling Teh will tackle Sunday the leadership challenges in the new normal and the programs being spearheaded by the SK.

Teh’s group is actively participating in the “edible landscaping” program launched by Rep. Joey Salceda in the second district of Albay.

Aibie Llamelo Carrascal, SK chairman of Barangay Gogon, said the training is very helpful and timely.

“Kapaki-pakinabang ang training na ito ngayong may pandemic para ma-raise ang awareness ng mga lider ng kabataan ang mga SK kung paano ili-lead ang mga youth sa barangay ngayong may Covid 19. Kung paano maging creative sa mga implementation ng activities at magkaroon ng youth active participation. (This kind of training is very useful in this time of pandemic. It helps raise awareness among youth leaders on how to lead their fellow youth in the barangay),” she said in a separate interview.

The next training was scheduled on May 22-23 and May 29-30 at Legazpi City Convention Center. (PNA)
