The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the advisory, 2021-1528, which urges consumers to not sell, consume, nor buy Kirkland Signature’s 1000mg Vitamin C supplement, Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

Known to many consumers in the Philippines, the Kirkland brand has been one of the most trusted brands for health and beauty as it clears off the racks because of its affordability, accessibility, and has been a trusted brand for Pinoy consumers.

In the released advisory, the Agency’s Post-Marketing Surveillance activities have verified that the supplement has not gone through the registration process and has not been issued with proper authorization through the Certificate of Product Registration.

Thus, the Agency warns the people and cannot guarantee the quality of the products, and consumption of the said product may pose a potential danger and risks the health of the Pinoy consumers.

Among the different products posted by the FDA, the Kirkland Signature’s 1000mg Vitamin C supplement shocked many netizens, as it became a staple brand for different products in the market.

Moreover, following the Republic Act 9711, or also known as the Food and Drug Administration act specifically, Section 7, which states that the manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertisement, or sponsorship of any health unregistered product is being prohibited.

The Agency notes that distributors should not sell the mentioned product unless proven and covered by the appropriate authorization, otherwise, regulatory actions and sanctions shall be strictly pursued.

However, the said product claims to be verified by the United States Pharmacopeia, an independent and non-profit organization in the United States of America that provides support to the manufacturers and ensures the quality of dietary supplements through their testing services and programs.

Kirkland, a subsidiary brand of Costco Wholesale Corporation, is a membership warehouse club that offers Americans a wide range of products from electronics to food products available to American consumers.
