A legislator of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has filed a bill seeking to establish the Bangsamoro Science High School (BSHS) to fully support young science learners in the region.

Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) parliament member Aida Silongan said Wednesday her BTA Bill No. 203 aims to bolster the high school science system in BARMM.

Known as the “Bangsamoro Science High School Act of 2022,” the measure would offer free scholarships to qualified learners in the region who are interested in pursuing a career in science.

Silongan, also minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), said the bill would ensure that BSHS meets or exceeds the standards of the current Philippine Science High School System.

It is also envisioned to integrate values education to fortify the foundation of both science and faith in the lives of students in the region, she said.

Under the proposed bill, the BSHS would be established in Parang, Maguindanao.

Once approved, it will establish a Board of Trustees chaired by the MOST minister and co-chaired by the BARMM minister of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education, with members including the president of the Mindanao State University System, the BSHS campus director, the president of the BSHS Alumni Association, and a private sector representative.
