The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed more than PHP5.1 million worth of relief assistance to families displaced by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng in this city.

Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD regional information officer, said Wednesday the distributed relief aid consisted of 9,115 family food packs (FFPs) and 1,263 10-liter sized bottled water.

Each FFP costing PHP546 contained six kilos of iron-fortified rice, canned corned beef and corned tuna, canned sardines, instant coffee packs and instant cereals.

“We also distributed instant noodles and biscuits for children to alleviate hunger while at the evacuation center,” Salvador said in an interview.

Hot meals were also provided to stranded individuals and distributed 396 sleeping kits as well as packed meals.

At least six evacuation centers were established in this city, catering of 10,160 families or of 50,800 individuals who were displaced by Paeng.

Salvador said burial assistance was also provided to the four persons who died due to the onslaught of the tropical cyclone here.

Meanwhile, Salvador said they are waiting for the decision of the DSWD central office as to what assistance will be given to families whose houses were destroyed.

“What we are doing now is profiling the affected households to identify who is really in dire need of help,” he said. (PNA)
