Professional surfers from Gen. Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte displayed their winning forms after dominating the 1st Mayor Dondon Longos Harok sa Tagbi Open Surfing Competition in Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands from Nov. 10 to 13.

Piso Alcala bagged the men’s shortboard division title, beating local surfers from host province Dinagat Islands.

The Siargao surfers also captured major prizes in the men’s division with Benjomar Canon winning the first runner-up, Ben Arjona snatching second runner-up, and Ivan Nogalo finishing third.

Wave riders from the country’s surfing capital also won the women’s division with Sheila Mae Convicto emerging as champion and teammates Sheila Mae Arjona and Susan Escanilla as second runner-up and third place finishers, respectively.

Alcala and Convicto received PHP15,000 each for winning the championships in their respective divisions.

In a statement on Sunday, Gen. Luna Siargao Mayor Sol Matugas was grateful for the success of the local surfers during the competition.

“Spectators and participants alike were awed as our General Luna surfers proved their rightful place in surfing,” Matugas said.

She also assured the surfers of the continuing support of the local government unit as they continue to conquer various surfing competitions in the country. (PNA)
