The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD -11) said it distributed PHP6 million worth of aid to flood-affected towns in Davao Occidental and Davao del Sur provinces.

In a public post Monday, DSWD-11 said it distributed family food packs (FFPs), modular tents, and sleeping kits to the towns of Sta. Maria and Malita in Davao Occidental; and also Malalag, Kiblawan, and Sulop in Davao del Sur.

“The DSWD will continue to provide FFPs in the coming days,” it said.

As of Nov. 19, DSWD-11 data showed that about 15,709 families or 66,356 individuals were affected by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) last week.

The effects of the ITCZ, meanwhile, prompted the municipalities of Malalag and Sta. Maria to place their respective areas under the state of calamity on Nov. 17.

Low-lying areas of the two towns were submerged in floodwaters and experienced landslides due to heavy rains.
On Nov. 19, the DSWD-11 also reported that three persons died in the floods. (PNA)
