The country’s active coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases dropped to 47,519 — the lowest in almost two weeks, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Wednesday.

The active cases are the lowest since May 26, when there were more than 46,037 patients still battling the disease.

In its latest case bulletin, the health department said at least 90.4 percent of the active cases have mild symptoms, 4.1 percent are asymptomatic or have no symptoms, 2.3 percent have severe symptoms, 1.6 percent are in critical condition, and 1.68 percent are moderate.

The DOH said the active case count is equivalent to 3.3 percent of the total number of infections, which is pushing now at 1,450,110 with 4,289 fresh cases.

Meanwhile, 6,399 more patients recovered, raising the number of Covid-19 survivors to 1,377,132. This accounts for 95 percent of the Philippines’ total case tally.

The death toll also rose to 25,459 or 1.76 percent of the case total after 164 more people succumbed to the disease.

The DOH noted that four labs were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

Eleven duplicate cases were removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 61 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 123 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

To date, 57 percent of 3,500 intensive care unit beds, 47 percent of 19,400 isolation beds, 42 percent of 12,100 ward beds, and 36 percent of 2,800 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use nationwide.

Meanwhile, 45 percent of 1,200 intensive care unit beds, 37 percent of 4,700 isolation beds, 33 percent of 3,500 ward beds, and 33 percent of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are being used in the National Capital Region. (PNA)
