The provincial government of Albay will provide educational assistance for solo parents or their children enrolled in tertiary schools through the “Graba Para sa Pag-eskwela” program in all three districts on March 3.

In an interview with the Albay Information Office on Wednesday, Albay Acting Governor Glenda Bongao said that the fund would be sourced from the PHP2-million quarry revenue for January along with the PHP1-million donation from Senator Lito Lapid through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“We are focusing on solo parents, and the aid will be distributed on March 3 so that students can benefit from it as soon as possible,” Bongao said.

Each college student beneficiary will receive PHP4,000 in educational assistance.

“When we refer to solo parents, we mean those who possess identification cards (IDs), indicating that they are duly registered,” she added.

Bongao encouraged those who are not yet registered to sign up at their municipal or city social welfare and development offices to gain easier access to additional programs for solo parents.

She said that the program aims to assist more college students in Albay with their financial needs.

“The beneficiaries must be enrolled for this semester. The applicant is either a solo parent who is in college or a child of a solo parent enrolled in tertiary; what is important is that they are enrolled, regardless of the course they are taking and whether they are in a public or private institution,” she said.
