The city government has approved the release of PHP8.8 million to support the over 600 athletes and coaches who will attempt to keep the city’s top rank in the 2024 Batang Pinoy in Puerto Princesa, Palawan in December.

Based on the expenditure schedule submitted by the city’s sports development office to the city council, each of the delegate to the national sports event for 15 years old and below is allotted PHP14,285.

“The amount will be used to cover the airfare, transportation, food, uniforms, insurance, and other expenses of the athletes and coaches who will join the event,” Jordan Habbiling, information officer of the city council, told the Philippine News Agency Monday.

This year’s delegation to the Dec. 15-21 event is higher than the 561 that represented Baguio City during the 2023 Batang Pinoy in Metro Manila.

Baguio topped last year’s event after garnering 82 gold, 52 silver, and 59 bronze medals.

Aside from assistance during the competition, medalists are also provided monetary incentives under the city’s sports code. (PNA)
