The Biliran Provincial State University (BiPSU) campus in Naval town has set up a handwashing area as a preventive measure against the contagious coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

At least 10 lavatories with soap, running water and drainpipe for washing beside the campus main gate became available starting Monday for personnel and clients who visit the university.

In a statement, the BiPSU media and information office said it will continue to serve students and the community by providing facilities for the public to practice proper handwashing.

On March 10, BiPSU announced the suspension of classes from March 12 to 15 for the sanitation of classrooms, offices, and other activity areas and the planning of the school health advisory.

However, it was extended until March 20 after Biliran Governor Rogelio Espina declared suspension of classes in all levels, both public and private schools due to the rising threat of Covid-19.

BiPSU urged students to stay home for safety purposes and discouraged get-togethers or other vacation activities.
The Biliran police are tasked to monitor public places and reprimand loitering children to return to their homes immediately.

Meanwhile, the local government of Naval on Friday has deployed border patrol team at Catmon village to monitor all persons coming to the provincial capital.

As of Sunday, Eastern Visayas remains free of the virus with 18 patients under investigation (PUIs) admitted in the region’s referral hospitals.

The Department of Health (DOH) advised all those who just came from the National Capital Region, and other areas with confirmed local transmission of Covid-19 are to strictly follow quarantine protocols.

The DOH urged them to register at the barangay (village) health emergency response team for proper monitoring and management. (PNA)
