Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC) donated PHP1.23 million worth of equipment and learning materials to six schools in Carigara and Capoocan towns in Leyte as part of its support to education.

LDSC turned over the donations to Carigara Mayor Eduardo Ong Jr. and local school heads in a ceremony on Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake (diocese) center.

Recipient campuses were Tagak Elementary School (ES), and Barugohay Norte ES in Carigara; Balud ES, Manloy ES, Balucanad ES, Asuncion S. Melgar National High School in Capoocan town.

The organization donated 185 armchairs, four laptops, five 42-inch smart televisions, 10 printers, six tents for senior high school, 3,300 hygiene kits, and 400 rims of bond paper.

“Thank you LDSC for this partnership. You came here to build nutrition centers and returned to provide the immediate needs of our schools,” Ong said.

Elder Benjamin Cinco, one of the Church’s key leaders in the Philippines, said the donation emphasized the importance of continued secular and spiritual education.

“We believe that when we are in the service of our fellowmen, we are in the service of God. Education is close to our hearts,” Cinco said.
