The Dinagat Islands provincial government has accredited 10 accommodation establishments, six community tour guides, and three water transport vehicles to strengthen tourism in the province this year.

In a statement Monday, Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. said the accreditations, issued by the Department of Tourism in Caraga (DOT-13), ensure high standards of quality and reliability for tourism services.

“We aim to create a sustainable and vibrant tourism industry in Dinagat Islands,” Demerey said. “Visitors can expect exceptional services and memorable experiences from accredited establishments, guides, and transport services.”

He also thanked DOT-13 for supporting the initiative, which aims to build trust among tourists and promote their safety and well-being.

 

Tourism growth

Provincial Tourism Officer Benlen Navas reported a significant increase in tourist visits in 2024, with 111,971 visitors compared to 31,548 in 2023—a 254.92-percent rise. Domestic tourists accounted for 108,517 visits, while foreign tourists totaled 3,454, marking increases of 251.65 percent and 401.31 percent, respectively.

The highest number of domestic arrivals occurred in December (23,767), followed by November (19,949) and October (17,689). Foreign arrivals peaked in November (721), followed by December (678) and October (533). (PNA)
