Globe Telecom will invest some PHP1 billion for its communication service in this province, especially on better and speedy internet connection.

This was announced by Bataan 2nd District Rep. Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III as he welcomed for the first time Globe chief executive officer Ernesto Cu here Friday.

Garcia said the coming of Cu ”is to make sure that we will have a good communication service from Globe and especially, ang inaasahan ng lahat na bumilis ang internet dito (all are expecting for the speedy internet here).”

“Thank you for visiting Bataan to see personally where your investment will go and I hope that you will have more future investments here,” he told Cu.

Governor Albert Garcia also welcomed Cu and the Globe family at the Bunker, seat of the provincial government.

Garcia spelled out the gains of the province and infrastructure projects already finished and soon to be constructed.

Cu said connectivity will be the first thing they will be doing and then will embark on the software.

He added that 74 more new cell sites will also be constructed in the province.

“It is expensive but it is over-waited and I think after coming here and seeing and hearing the plans, I think we may even increase it,” Cu said.

Cu said the project will not succeed without the permits and the sites.

He asked provincial and municipal officials “tulungan ninyo kaming humanap ng lugar para maitayo ito (to help them find a place where it will be put up).”

He said in their experience, there were places where they found it hard to build cell sites.

Garcia said he has issued an executive order enjoining all municipal and village officials to assist Globe Telecom.

“We will interconnect all of these. We will also install about 230 kilometers of fiber around the province connecting the major distribution,” Cu said.

He added that Globe will be spending this year around PHP62 billion for infrastructure in the whole country.

In 2018, Globe built only more than 500 cell sites but in 2019 they set up 1,100 cell sites.

“This is historical high never been done by any telco. This year, we want to build 1,800,” Cu said.

Cu admitted that they have a big income but it goes mainly into infrastructures.

He, however, said they have to go on despite the big expenses thinking of the welfare of the country.
“Kapag tumigil kami, titigil ang pag-advance ng ating country (If we stop, the advancement of our country will stop too.) Telco is a fiber infrastructure no different from building roads, bridges and power utilities. Without telco, nothing happens,” Cu said. (PNA)
