The newly completed PHP34.5-million bridge in Tubao, La Union is now open to motorists, enhancing accessibility and economic progress in the town and neighboring municipalities.
Spanning 30 meters in length with a 306-meter by 6.1-meter pavement, the bridge which construction began on April 25, 2023, aims to provide safer and more efficient access for residents and businesses.
The bridge was completed on Dec. 10, 2024 ahead of schedule, according to the La Union Provincial Information Office (PIO) in a press statement on Friday.
“The project brings a more efficient, accessible and safer thoroughfare for residents and neighboring communities traversing the area. It also provides convenience to farmers transporting their agricultural produce,” it said.
The bridge also serves as an alternate route to the municipality of Rosario that will link Barangays Pideg and Francia Sur in Tubao to barangays Bacani, Marcos, Tanglag, and Parasapas in Rosario which will eventually lead to Marcos Highway.
From its original 10-meter width, the bridge was expanded to 30 meters in length to accommodate more vehicles and improve traffic flow.
“Before, this bridge had only one lane and was lower, making it risky to cross during the rainy season. But now? It is higher, wider, and sturdier!),” Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David said.
Ortega-David said she is expecting more infrastructure projects to be completed this year as she affirmed her commitment to implement infrastructure projects that will spur economic growth and improve the quality of life in La Union. (PNA)
