The provincial government here on Tuesday opened the 1st Laguna Mobility Summit to encourage motorists to develop safe driving habits and ease the flow of traffic.

The summit is being held at the Laguna Cultural Center and is among the activities marking the province’s 452nd founding anniversary, which began Monday with the theme “Mayabong na Kasaysayan tungo sa Matatag na Kinabukasan.”

In an interview, Pamela Baun, head of the Laguna Tourism Culture and Trade Office, said the summit has drawn the participation of various segments within the transportation sector, such as jeepney and bikers’ organizations.

“The event aims to reduce the number of accidents and always prioritize road safety practices, as Laguna should be a good example to other provinces and regions with road unity,” she said.

As of this writing, about 350 members of various public utility jeepney (PUJ) and motorcycle riders’ organizations were present at the summit.

It was also disclosed that on Tuesday afternoon, the Indonesian Embassy was scheduled to conduct a lecture on what the region was like during the pre-Spanish period.

Baun said “they [Indonesian Embassy] gathered a lot of information about the history of the pre-Hispanic era here.”

Meanwhile, there will be a civic parade on Wednesday to be attended by the employees of the province of Laguna and different sectors of the community.

“Our foundation week is concentrated on our sectoral activities. It is about giving back to the community in support of the foundation week,” said Baun.

“We also have a Service Tama Caravan here in the provincial capitol compound Friday morning which is open to everybody who wants to have a check-up and needs medicine,” she added.

Health care services that will be made available, including flu vaccines, electrocardiogram, pap smear, insertion and removal of Progestin Subdermal Implant, and laboratory tests for glucose, uric acid and cholesterol. (PNA)
