A woman has successfully given birth after seeking help from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) vaccination team at its headquarters in Makati City.

In a statement on Tuesday, the MMDA said the woman’s husband, a tricycle driver, sought help from the MMDA’s vaccination facility on Monday afternoon after his wife experienced labor pains and was very close to giving birth.

It said the woman was brought first to a lying-in clinic near Guadalupe Church but it was closed, prompting the husband to bring his wife to nearby Guadalupe Nuevo barangay hall but were asked to wait.

This time, the husband decided to seek help from the MMDA vaccination team.

“The vaccination team immediately responded and prepared a makeshift delivery table while waiting for an ambulance. After 14 minutes, the woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl via normal delivery. Both of them are in good condition,” the MMDA said.

Those who assisted in childbirth were mostly personnel of the MMDA Road Emergency Group.

It said that both the woman and the baby were later brought to the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital to get further medical attention.

MMDA Chairman Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. commended the vaccination team for going “beyond their call of duty”.

“In these trying times, we are very much grateful for all the work done by our front liners and vaccination team. They don’t just vaccinate but they are also ready and willing to help those who need immediate medical attention,” Abalos said. (PNA)
