A new sports complex with world-class amenities will soon rise in Barangay Banga.

City Mayor Linabelle Ruth R. Villarica and Vice Mayor Josefina O. Violago led on Wednesday the groundbreaking and time-capsule laying ceremonies for the formal start of the construction of the first public sports center.

Villarica said the new Meycauayan Sports Complex will have a track and field oval with sports rubber flooring, basketball, badminton and tennis courts, eco-tourism parks and offices with a bridge over the lagoon.

“The new sports complex will be put up in an approximately 22,065.78 square meters land area with an estimated budget of PHP74 million and may also serve our evacuation center during calamities,” she said.

She thanked her husband, Bulacan 4th District Rep. Henry Villarica, a former mayor of the City of Meycauayan, because it was during his incumbency that the sports complex project materialized.

Meanwhile City Engineer’s Office (CEO) head Gil Maglaqui said the projected completion of the new sports complex will be in the first quarter of 2021.

He said it is about time for Meycauayan to have a sports complex fit for a highly-urbanized city.

“This is a much-deserved breakthrough for the people of the Meycauayan to have a perfect edifice to house world-class sports amenities to be proud of,” he said.

Also present during the ceremony were members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, barangay officials, department heads and city government employees. (PNA)
