The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has vaccinated for rabies some 4,034 dogs and cats in the province of Pangasinan from January 1 to June 14 this year.

PVO planning officer Raquel Palad said the rabies vaccination program is still ongoing.

Aside from the vaccination of pets, the PVO has also conducted deworming or mange treatment, vitamins administration, castration of dogs and cats, and spaying of cats.

“The program aims to encourage residents on responsible pet ownership and to prevent rabies,” she said in an interview on Thursday.

Based on the monitoring of the Provincial Health Office, there were seven rabies cases in the province from January 1 to June 14 this year, higher than the five cases recorded in the same period last year.

The rabies victims were from Alaminos City, Bolinao, Bani (two cases), Infanta, Rosales, and Sison towns.

Meanwhile, pet owner Mark Capio thanked the provincial government for the vaccination and deworming of his pets. (PNA)
