There will be more than 6,500 job vacancies that will be up for grabs during the Labor Day jobs fair in two locations in Baguio City on May, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Tuesday.

About 1,715 local job vacancies will be offered by 33 employers; 4,492 overseas job vacancies to be offered by 11 overseas companies and manning agencies; and 372 vacancies from 14 locators of SM City Baguio.

The jobs fair will be held at Baguio Convention Center and SM City-Baguio mall.

The foreign job vacancies will be for the United Kingdom, United States, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and Scotland, among others, while the positions are for nurses and other medical workers, laborers, farm workers, hotel workers, laborers and seafarers.

“President Ferdinand (R.) Marcos Jr. is pushing for these programs where employers and employees will be provided a venue to meet and decide to work for each other as a poverty alleviation measure,” DOLE-Cordillera Administrative Region Director Imelda Romanillos said in a press conference.

A Kadiwa ng Pangulo market-linkage facilitation program of the government and a livelihood fair will be simultaneously held during the jobs fair, she said.

Romanillos said more than 10 government agencies will provide their services during the events, including DOLE-attached agencies National Conciliation and Mediation Board, National Labor Relations Commission, Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, Employees’ Compensation Commission, and Occupational Safety and Health Center.

The other offices are the Professional Regulation Commission, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Statistics Authority, Department of Trade and Industry, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Pag-IBIG Fund, Social Security System, Bureau of Immigration, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Department of Migrant Workers.

“Our job seekers are assured that they will not be scammed in the job fairs as the companies joining the event have been screened and are assured of legal status,” Emerito Narag, DOLE-Cordillera technical service and support division chief, said. (PNA)
