The city government of Manila continues to intensify its efforts to mitigate the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) through the conduct of more free swab tests.

Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso said in his social media post on Friday that the city has so far provided swab tests to a total of 69,231 individuals.

“Mas pinaigting po natin ang pagsasagawa nito upang mabigyan ng kapanatagan ang bawat isa at masiguro ang kaligtasan ng lahat laban sa Covid-19 (We have intensified our testing to give peace of mind and ensure the safety of everyone against (Covid-19),” Domagoso’s post read.

He said that aside from the regular free swab testing being done at the Quirino Grandstand, the Delpan Quarantine facility, and at the Sta. Ana Hospital, members of the Manila Health Department (MHD) also do home swabbing in different barangays of the city.

Meanwhile, the city government also continues to provide swab tests to public utility drivers, mall workers, hotel employees, and market vendors in Manila.

Domagoso said 1,029 individuals have already undergone home swabbing, 1,616 returning Manila residents who spent the holidays outside the city, and 22,171 public utility drivers and other essential workers.

Moreover, from Jan. 18 to 22, 322 individuals have already availed themselves of the free swab test by appointment at the Quirino Grandstand.

Data provided by the Manila Public Information Office showed that out of the 322, seven individuals — five Manilans and two non-Manilans — tested positive for Covid-19, while 86 are still awaiting their test results.

“Lahat ng mga nagpo-positibo sa Covid-19 agad po nating dinadala sa quarantine facilities upang mabigyan sila ng karampatang medikal na atensyon (All those who resulted positive are brought to our quarantine facilities for immediate medical attention),” Domagoso said.

Meanwhile, the city of Manila has recorded 61 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, bringing its total number of active cases to 363.

The total of new recoveries in the city is now at 24,832 after 90 new recoveries were logged while no new deaths due to Covid-19 were reported. (PNA)
