The provincial government of Pangasinan and religious sectors have lined-up activities in celebration of Bible Week in the province from Jan. 25 to 31.
In an interview on Tuesday, pastor Myra Soriano Jalique, Philippines Bible Society (PBS) Bible ambassador, said PBS has distributed 300 Bibles to front-liners through the Provincial Health Office.
“Malasiqui town has five barangay activities; Dagupan has a Bible Quiz on Friday, and I believe the local government units had their flag ceremonies or Bible Week celebration on Monday. We can’t really do much activity because of the pandemic. Every Church has been encouraged to celebrate (the) National Bible on Sunday (Jan. 24),” she said.
The Gideons International Philippines has conducted Bible distribution, while PBS also gave out Bibles to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Dagupan City, she said.
“Participation in the virtual Bible Fest (Jan. 23-25) with PBS via Zoom was participated by Catholic and Protestant Church members or leaders,” she added.
Meanwhile, the provincial government held a program on Monday for the commencement of the Provincial Bible Week.
The province is holding audio Bible scripture reading through its official Facebook page every 7 a.m. daily until Sunday.
President Rodrigo Duterte issued Presidential Proclamation 124 in 2017 declaring January of every year as National Bible Month in recognition of the “religious nature of the Filipino people and the elevating influence of religion in human society.” (PNA)
