Three Filipino Taolu artists made a name in an international competition after getting a lone gold medal during the 16th World Wushu Championships.

Just recently, athletes from different parts of the world gathered to compete in Texas, USA, for the World Wushu Championships.

Included in the competition line-up were Taolu artists from the Philippines, such as Mark Lester Ragay, Mark Anthony Polo, Vincent Ventura, and Arnel Mandal.

Wrapping up the competition in their respective divisions, Ragay, Polo, and Ventura claimed a gold medal for the country after getting a score of 9.616 in the Men’s Duilian category, besting off the athletes from Brunei for the first spot.

Other than the gold medal, the Philippine team also won four silver medals and one bronze medal in other categories and divisions.

For the silver medal, Agatha Wong clinched it from the Women’s Taijiquan category, while Arnel Mandal from Men’s Sanda 52 kg, Clemente Tabugara Jr. from Men’s Sanda 65 kg, and Jenifer Kilapio from Women’s Sanda 48 kg

Filipino athlete Russell Diaz also claimed the bronze medal for the men’s Sanda 48 kg. Other than these medals, some Pinoy athletes also qualified for the Taolu World Cup, namely Agatha Wong, Johnzenth Gajo, Jones Inso, Sandrex Gainsan, and Thornton Sayan.

The said competition was launched by the International Wushu Federation, which was established in 1990. The organization handles all forms of wushu worldwide and is responsible for developing the said sports in different forms.
